THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Another Fun-Packed Weekend for Us All!

No big thaw or polar vortex planned for this weekend!  However, it’s still winter in Chicago with another fun-packed weekend for us all!

The city is celebrating the Chinese New Year by ringing in the “Year of the Pig” with a variety of cultural, musical and culinary events.  This weekend includes:

The annual Argyle Lunar New Year Parade is a decades old local tradition celebrating the new Chinese Lunar Year.  Come join the Uptown community this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) for music, colorful lion and dragon dances, and a processional of local groups and floats starting at Argyle & Winthrop at 1:00 p.m. sharp!  Before and after the parade, be sure to stop by the many local businesses on Argyle offering a variety of goods, gifts, drinks, and menu items!!

Join the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago (238 W. 23rd St.) in Chinatown for their annual Chinese New Year Celebration this Saturday (2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.).  This festive event features Chinese music, Chinese food, arts & crafts, a traditional Chinese lion dance, and more!  It’s a perfect event for the entire family!!

This year’s Lunar New Year Parade is on Sunday (1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.) at 24th Street and Wentworth Avenue in Chinatown.  Drawing more than 30,000 spectators annually, marching bands, colorful floats, traditional lion dances, and a special appearance by Ronald McDonald will be featured!  So come join the crowds in celebration of the Year of the Pig!!

Ever dream of wearing your PJs out in public?  You can at this year’s Pajama Bar Crawl on Saturday (11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) starting at John Barleycorn (3524 N. Clark St.) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood.  Grab your friends and don your most comfortable PJs, then partake in a complimentary breakfast buffet and bounce between several of Wrigleyville’s hottest bars!  Tickets include admission, breakfast buffet, three $4 gift cards to use on the crawl, giveaways, and more!!

Chicago’s #1 pizza festival, Chicago Pizza Party, showcases delicious talent from the pizza capital of the world this Saturday on National Pizza Day at Ravenswood Event Center (4043 N. Ravenswood Ave.) in the Ravenswood neighborhood.  This event features two sessions (1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.), more than 20 of the best pizza restaurants in the city vying for “Best Pie in Chi,” a rooftop dessert lounge, local breweries, wine, and signature cocktails!  There’s also fun games, cool prizes, pizza swag, top local DJ’s, and more—  all under one roof on three floors!!

The Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Ave.) in the Lakeview neighborhood is hosting a Casablanca Sweetheart Sing-A-Long.  It’s a pre-Valentine’s Day screening sing-a-long (lyrics to be projected) of the 1942 World War II propaganda film “Casablanca” starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Peter Lorre, and others.  This film remains a beloved touchstone even today and won the Best Picture Academy Award representing golden age Hollywood filmmaking at its height!

TopAct Events presents a special suspense-filled evening of secrets, surprise, and murder with a 1920s Murder Mystery dinner party at Bourbon ‘N Brass Speakeasy (1012 Church St.) in Evanston this Saturday (6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.).  Guests get to play the role of a suspect, detective, or witness and are encouraged to get into character by dressing in 1920s attire!  Each ticket includes reception style buffet dinner from Rock ‘N Ravioli’s Italian restaurant, raffle prize giveaways for mystery winners, photos, and more!!
