KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – SIMPLE DECORATIONS FOR THE HOLIDAY

When you buy your tree ask for any loose branches they have lying around. They can be used in so many different ways. Put different types of greens in a large vase. Tie a lovely big red bow around the top. Trim the branches first and care for them as you would cut flowers changing the water every few days. Place three to five cylindrical candles of different sizes on a table or mantle arrange branches around. Add mini ornaments and lights to make a festive centerpiece. Replace the greens with fluffy cotton for a snow-like vision.

Pine cones are great additions to any arrangement. Fill a large cut bowl with pine cones for an easy centerpiece. Add to all your greens arrangements for a woodsy feel. Spray paint them silver and gold for elegant addition.

As with the pine cones any dish full of holiday colored items makes a quick easy lovely centerpiece. Red apples or green mini artichokes keep with the colors of the season. Several different colors and texture of ornaments in a bowl are interesting and colorful.

It’s fun to decorate the windows for the holiday. Take several holiday themed tin cookie cutters in various sizes. String them with beautiful red and green holiday ribbon and hang from the window casing varying the length. Take small foam balls and wrap with multi colored rubber bands making ornaments to hang in the window.

Battery powered lights are great for decorating. Wind a string around a large Styrofoam ball to make Starlight bulbs. Suspend three or four of different sizes for a bright and beautiful effect. Wind the lights throughout all your greenery arrangements.

Colorful candies always look great on any holiday table. Use your prettiest glassware to display large candy canes and assorted green and red wrapped candies.
