KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – GET THINKING ABOUT THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is still almost three weeks away but it’s a good idea to get started now. If you are going to cook a fresh turkey why not order early? Make your guest list to determine how big a turkey to purchase. Plan on 2 pounds per adult and 1 per child to ensure leftovers! For baked goods ordering early here also will ensure you get exactly what you want.

Plan your menu. You have plenty of time to explore new recipes to try. Keep your old family favorites but branch out a little. Try roasting Brussels sprouts and baby carrots with olive oil. Many people that abhor Brussels like them roasted they’re sweeter and less pungent. Try some of the different types of squash. Delicata and buttercup have a more delicate flavor and are wonderful for Thanksgiving. Explore online; Cooking.com foodnetwork.com and americastestkitchen.com are great starting points. You can try some things out with all this time you have till the big day.

As we get closer to Thanksgiving we will give you a schedule to get you through the holiday week to make sure you use your time efficiently and assure you can spend time with friends and family instead of the whole day in the kitchen.
