TECHNOLOGY TIPS – TURN OFF TRACKING ON FIREFOX

I’m a big Firefox fan. It works well with my current computer set-up and I’ve not had problems in the past three years. I just found this new feature that I really like for various reasons. Firefox has a Do-not-track feature that lets you tell websites you don’t want your browsing behavior tracked.

When you are a on a website there is a tracking feature that learns your habits when there. A really good example of this is Facebook. Based upon your demographics (age ethnicity pages liked etc.) you’ll see ads that are targeted specifically to you.

With the Do-not-track feature Firefox tells every website that you visit that you don’t want your information stored or tracked. Unfortunately the sites do not have to honor your settings because it is voluntary. Those websites that do honor this setting will stop tracking you automatically.

To turn on this feature open Firefox. Go to the Options menu and select Options. You’ll select the Privacy panel and check Tell websites I do not want to be tracked. Click Ok and you’re done.
