THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – READY TO SHAKE OFF SOME WINTER CHILL?

Well it appears that ‘ole man winter here in Chicago continues to hang around on our weekends so here are a few suggestions to shake off some of that winter chill!

O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels Show takes place this weekend at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (5555 N. River Road) in Rosemont. Now in its 50th year this show features hundreds of souped-up street machines hot rods and race cars as well as signature motorcycles and the return of the monster truck Bigfoot. Celebrity appearances by WWE champion Rey Mysterio Billy the Exterminator (A&E) and Zendaya (Rocky from "Shake It Up") among others will be on hand as well!

The Chicago Bike Swap takes place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse (1419 W. Blackhawk Street) in the West Town neighborhood. Deals on bikes gear and accessories are offered by over 50 bike shops merchants non-profit organizations and individuals. Presentations and demos on family biking winter commuting and more will also be offered along with bike-themed games and activities. Food (Goose Island catering) and coffee (Caribou) will also be on hand!

The High Wheeler Train Show takes place Saturday and Sunday (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) at Harper College (1200 W. Algonquin Road) in Palatine a neighboring suburb of Chicago. Twenty-two operating exhibits and demonstrations with masters are the highlight at this 34th annual model train show. Food and hobby vendors craft areas for kids and door prizes complete this event. Of course March wouldn’t be complete without these events –

March Mayhem: Crawl to Madness takes place Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and begins at Schuba’s Tavern (3159 N. Southport Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood. Six bars along Southport Avenue participate in this event where crawlers show their school pride by wearing team colors. Other festivities include drink specials games and giveaways as well as live music from "The Future Laureates."

The St. Practice Day Pub Crawl takes place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. beginning at Timothy O’Toole’s Pub (622 N. Fairbanks Court) in the Streeterville neighborhood and continuing throughout the evening to three other Streeterville spots with Lizzie McNeill’s being the last stop at 11:00 p.m. Irish-themed items and festive garb will be given to participating crawlers but don’t forget to wear all things green! It’s never too late to get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day which by the way is two weeks away and falls on a Saturday this year!!

Lastly I realize that there are those of you who prefer the winter chill so for you we have the Chicago Polar Plunge which takes place Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and benefits the "Special Olympics Chicago." This 12th annual event will be held at North Avenue Beach (1600 N. Lake Shore Drive) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood where participants can take a dip (knee high waist high or full plunge) in the frigid waters of Lake Michigan. Also includes a souvenir T-shirt a warm towel food drinks a costume contest and prizes for top fundraisers! Join the Timothy O’Toole’s Pub Team and head back to the bar for drink specials after taking the plunge!!
