KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – QUICK CLEANING KITCHEN TIPS

Fill your sink with hot soapy water. As you are cooking wash dishes and utensils as you use them. Rinse dishes and load the dishwasher as you work.

If you have a sticky spot on the counter lay a wet cloth over it and let it sit for a few minutes. If you cut meat or chicken on a cutting board you know about sanitizing and washing the board but you also need to sanitize the counter. I keep a quart jar of a mild bleach solution (few drops of bleach in a quart of water). Use this with a paper towel to sanitize surfaces in the kitchen. This is also good for baby toys and pacifiers. As far as cutting boards go it’s best to have one dedicated to be used on meat and chicken only. You still have to sanitize but it makes cross contamination difficult.

Clean the refrigerator the day before grocery shopping. Check for out-of-date and items that are no longer fresh. Baking soda and water will clean and deodorize at the same time. It will act as a mild abrasive when used dry like cleanser. Sprinkle some soda at the bottom of the trash can to absorb odor.

Clean burned-on food in casserole dishes and pans. Lay a dryer sheet in the dish fill with hot water and soak overnight. Fill pans with burned-on food with water and boil on the stove. Let cool and wipe out the grime.

Quick mop the floor every day. It only takes a few minutes and really makes the kitchen look clean! The all-in-one mops with cleaning solution make this a breeze.

Keep the sponges and dishrags clean and sanitary. Change dishrags every other day. Sponges can be put in the microwave or on the top shelf of your dishwasher.
