THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – CHICAGO’S SUMMER CELEBRATIONS KEEP ON COMING!

If there’s one thing the Chicagoans know how to do well they know how to keep their celebrations coming throughout the summer even when there’s no holiday involved! This weekend in Chicago will prove it!!

The Rock Around the Block is back for its 17th annual Lakeview street fest at Lincoln and Belmont Avenues (3200 N. Lincoln Ave.). See local bands on two stages along with street performers. Of course the fest also includes food and craft vendors as well as kids’ activities.

The Chicago Folk and Roots Festival is back for its 13th annual fest at Welles Park in the Lincoln Square neighborhood located at 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave. This neighborhood fest provides live music from a mix of international artists and local talent throughout the park as well as you guessed it food and beer vendors arts and crafts kids’ entertainment dance lessons and more.

The West Fest held in the East Village/Ukrainian Village at Chicago and Damen Avenues (800 N. Damen Ave.) is a locally-minded street fest which features bands and DJ’s on two stages along with food and drink vendors arts and crafts a kids’ stage and a pet fest area.

The Chicago Tribune North Michigan Avenue Art Festival is back for its 19th annual juried event in the River North neighborhood at Pioneer Court (401 N. Michigan Ave.). On hand will be about 200 award-winning painters potters sculptors jewelry-makers and photographers from across the country showcasing their artwork. Prices range from $15 for earrings to $20000 for sculptures. Also included is live music and demonstrations.

The Roscoe Village Burger Fest located at Belmont and Damen Avenues (2000 W. Belmont Ave.) in the Roscoe Village neighborhood will be serving up burgers from seven local vendors at this new neighborhood party. And true to Chicago tradition this fest provides two stages of live music additional food and drink vendors and arts and crafts.

The Irish American Heritage Festival is back for its 25th annual indoor-outdoor cultural fest in the North Park neighborhood at the Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Ave.). There will be plenty of live Irish and American music on five stages along with dance performances a mashed-potato eating contest a matchmaking event sing-alongs a singing contest as well as the traditional food vendors arts and crafts and kids’ activities.

The Boulevard Bash sets up in the Logan Square neighborhood at Logan Boulevard & Milwaukee Avenue (3100 W. Logan Blvd.) with its food and drink vendors bands and artists for their inaugural neighborhood fest.

The Island in the City Festival sets up in Norridge a suburb of Chicago at the Norridge Park District (4631 N. Overhill Ave.). This annual fest hosted by Norridge and Harwood Heights features food vendors a beer garden live music and carnival rides.

And finally for the beachgoers Saturday brings Volleywood Beach Bash to North Avenue Beach (1600 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood while Sunday brings Are You Game? Please note that the Saturday event will require a ticket to gain admittance whether you’re there for the tournament or just to party and soak up the sun!

There’s a definite pattern to Chicago’s summer celebrations so no matter which ones you choose to attend you’re guaranteed to have a good time!
