TECHNOLOGY TIPS – SKYPE AND APPLE BLOCK FRING

Cathy Mallers PhotoFring is a free mobile application that lets users communicate with friends on popular networks over their mobile phone’s internet connection. Fring does not cost the user anything and allows the user to make free mobile calls live chat and video chat among other things.

Once the Apple iPhone 4 was released fring released an updated iPhone App that allowed users to make unrestricted 2-way video calling. This app allows the user to use Wi-Fi or 3G with another iPhone Android or Symbian device. When this first happened Apple was required to reduce its network support to Skype.

This then created a larger issue where Skype has blocked fring and its users. According to a press release from fring Needless to say we are very disappointed that Skype who once championed the cause of openness is now trying to muzzle competition even at the expense of its own users.

Skype has not yet commented on the accusations.
