THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Major Events Spotlighted!
It appears that this weekend is shaping up to be a jam-packed one with several major events being spotlighted as we continue to enjoy what’s left of summer!
An array of flying acts returns to the Chicago lakefront for the Chicago Air and Water Show this Saturday and Sunday (10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.) at North Avenue Beach (1600 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Your best option for viewing air and watercraft demonstrations is along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street especially if you’re not interested in being in the throngs of people at North Avenue Beach. Headlining this year’s show are the U.S. Navy Blue Angels who did not perform last year, and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights. Once again, Herb Hunter will be the voice of the show as he has been for over 20 years. It’s the largest FREE show of its kind in the country with stunning aerial displays above Lake Michigan!
Its that time of year again when the Bud Billiken Parade celebrates its 95th edition of the world’s largest and oldest African American parade this Saturday (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) to kick off the upcoming school year with high energy and enthusiasm. The parade’s two-mile route begins in the Bronzeville neighborhood at 35th Street and Martin Luther King Drive and moves south through Washington Park ending at 55th Street. Not only will attendees lining the streets see colorful floats, marching bands, talented dance troupes, and drill teams but also will experience a day filled with multiple activations from sponsors, vendors, and community organizations at the post-parade event in Washington Park at 5531 South King Drive. Come be part of this incredible community event!
One of the largest street festivals in the Midwest, Northalsted Market Days, takes place this Saturday and Sunday (11 a.m.-10 p.m.) on Halsted Street from Belmont Avenue to Addison Street in the Lakeview neighborhood. This ½ mile long festival is a summer celebration featuring all-day lineups of live music on 5 stages, food and drink, 250+ vendors, dance exhibitions, drag performances, and more. It’s an iconic Pride event celebrating community!
Browse thousands of art pieces from 95 original and unique artists at this year’s Printer’s Row Art Fest this Saturday and Sunday (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) at Printers Row located on Dearborn Street from Harrison to Polk Streets in The Loop. This event also offers free entry; tasty treats; cold beer or sangria; live music; a Kid’s Art Zone with art fest bingo, spin art, sand sculpture, coloring, drawing, and more; live art demo stations to interact with the artists; and more. Enjoy a day at this bold and beloved community festival!
Yearning to go back in time? Well, the 27th annual Retro on Roscoe takes place this Saturday and Sunday (12 p.m.-10 p.m.) at Damen Avenue and Roscoe Street in the Roscoe Village neighborhood. This throwback street market features live music from tribute acts that perform hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s; local top restaurants serving up desired summer treats; and the neighborhood’s beautiful tree-lined streets will be filled with artisans, antique vendors, and merchants for your shopping pleasure. In addition, the Antique and Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, presented by Four Treys Bar, will showcase over 50 antique, classic, and muscle cars throughout the weekend.
