THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – CELEBRATING EASTER AT HOME!

This weekend is usually a time for big family gatherings in both the Christian and Jewish faiths.  Families and friends gather around a Seder table in the Jewish faith to tell the story of Passover which began this past Wednesday evening and continues for eight days.  Christians come together throughout the week for Passion Plays then gather after Easter Sunday services to enjoy a brunch or dinner.  Don’t let COVID-19 stop you and your family from celebrating your holiday at home!

EASTER

Make your kids Easter extra special this year by surprising them with Creative Easter Treats.  Have them join you in making Easter chick treats, Rice Krispies Easter eggs, Easter bunny hug cookies, Peeps chick house or Bunny butt pretzels!

Don’t leave out crafting from your holiday fun.  Try out these Simple Easter Crafts for kids that include eggs, bunnies and chicks such as a paper Easter wreath, or a toilet paper roll bunny, perhaps some hatching chicks, or some non-sew sock bunnies, and more!

Done with boiling and dyeing eggs for Easter?  Then why not start a new holiday tradition with Eggless Easter Egg Projects.  These DIY projects don’t require actual eggs, and thanks to supplies found around your house, these colorful eggs will let everyone’s creativity shine.  An Easter egg sun catcher, speckled egg bath bombs, painted Easter egg rocks, and salt dough Easter eggs are just a few of the projects found here!

You may not want to overload your kids Easter baskets with sugary treats especially since you’re on lockdown with them.  Check out these Non-Candy Items such as books, craft supplies, games, movies, indoor/outdoor toys, and more, to create a special Easter basket!

PASSOVER

Eating matzo (unleavened bread product) is one way to remember Passover and celebrate Jewish heritage.  So, here are a few Kid-Friendly Matzo Recipes like granola, grilled cheese, s’mores or chocolate caramel matzo!

To help celebrate Passover at home, here are 5 Crafts for some family fun to help share stories and memories.  The five projects are Elijah’s cup, Passover kids craft pillowcases, Passover goodie bag, snack for picky eaters and Passover puppet!

Passover is a holiday celebrating the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt.  Since the story of Passover may be complex to explain to a child, here are Passover Activities that give kids a lesson on this important holiday!

Finally, even though we’re all under stay-at-home orders, churches and Passover Seder dinners are streaming their services live at How to Stream Passover & Easter Services.  Thanks to modern technology, families can still dress up and practice their faiths at home!

Please celebrate your holiday at home — safely!!
