Restaurant Review – Pho’s Spicier Thai

With the weather getting cooler, it’s the perfect time for comfort food! For me, that almost always means Asian food. I love a big plate of noodles or a spicy soup when the weather is cold. This week took me to Pho’s Spicier Thai in Lakeview. The restaurant is totally unassuming from the outside- if you weren’t looking, you’d pass it! There are just a handful of tables and the decor is simple, but charming. I was really hungry, so I knew I wanted to start with an appetizer. I chose the Thai Fresh Spring Rolls: fresh egg roll skin wrapped with cucumber, carrot, tofu, and fried egg, served with a tamarind sweet and sour sauce. These were fantastic! The veggies were so crisp and I loved the addition of the fried egg. The sauce was delicious as well- tangy and balanced. I love curry and it’s usually my go to Thai order! This was no exception. I chose the Green Curry: your choice of sautéed meat with green curry paste in coconut milk, with eggplant, bell pepper, green peas, carrots, and fresh basil. I decided to get chicken for my meat. The curry also comes with steamed white rice. Pho’s is famous for their very spicy food- so I went with a Medium Plus heat level. Boy am I glad! It was wonderfully spicy- but even this level made my nose run, so I couldn’t have handled any hotter! The curry was delicious. The coconut milk gives a lovely sweetness to the heat of the green curry paste and the chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender. I can’t wait to come back and try more items here! This is one of my new go-to places.

Pho’s has three locations: in Lakeview, on Western Ave, and in Rogers Park. They are available for online ordering and delivery as well. They are also BYOB for dine-in customers. They are open 7 days a week from 11:30 am to 10 pm. Find more information here.
