Empirical Brewery’s taproom (1801 W. Foster Ave.) will be holding its grand opening tomorrow Friday 10/30 beginning at 4:30pm. The new taproom has the capacity to seat 99 customers at communal tables. The focus is on the brewery’s beer of course so there will not be a kitchen for serving food. Instead patrons will be encouraged to bring their own food or order delivery. You will be able to order standard Empirical beers or try flights of experimental brews that are being worked on. Taproom hours will be 12:00pm – 10:00pm on Sundays Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays and 12:00pm – 12:00am on Fridays and Saturdays.

PORTAGE PARK

Joe & Melissa Basilone the owners of Thrift & Thrive (6025 W. Irving Park Rd.) and Perkolator coffee shop (6032 W. Irving Park Rd.) have brought a new store to the neighborhood this month where lounging is welcome. Sputnik Books & Records is connected to Perkolator at 6034 W. Irving Park Rd. and the Basilones have created a comfortable space where customers are invited to use the listening stations or peruse books while enjoying your coffee or meal with no obligation to purchase.

LAKEVIEW

Alderman Tom Tunney made a statement this week explaining his reasons for approving the property tax increase that will go into effect in 2016. He cites his main reason for supporting the tax hike is because he’s been assured that 43 more police officers will be added to the police department that includes Lakeview in 2016. He also claims that the new budget will allow a "multi-million dollar investment for Lake View High School" and he supports the city’s obligation to pay out pensions promised to Chicago’s Police and Fire departments.

NAPERVILLE

There is an open volunteer position for trustee on the Firefighters’ Pension Fund Board according to Chicago Tribune. Mayor Steve Chirico’s office is extending the available position to any resident of Naperville to help control and manage the Pension Fund. At least 32 hours of initial trustee certification training will be necessary with the obligation to attend four regular meetings four investment meetings and any other special meetings if necessary during the course of 1 year. Get ready for a new modern Indian restaurant opening soon in the West Loop. Chefs Hiran Patel and Sahil Singh opened their first Naansense location at 171 N. Wells St. Their modern take on Indian cuisine with a innovative "Chipotle-style" way of ordering has been so successful that their second location at 113 S. Clinton St. will be opening soon in early November.
