TECHNOLOGY TIPS – SMART PHONES AND LIGHT PHONES

It was announced this morning that the worldwide sales of smartphones are expected to be reduced by over half from last year. This is due to saturation in the Chinese market and so shipments are expected to decline. While the Chinese market is the largest in the world it’s no longer considered an emerging market like it once was.

So why am I telling you all about this?

I actually wanted to talk about turning off from the screens smartphones pads and technology in general while still staying connected. And so I present you with the Light Phone. It’s an extremely basic phone either answering or making phone calls. That’s it. The only bells and whistles are that the phone is simple.

The phone allows you to stay connected without being distracted. It’s designed by an artist and engineer with 10 years experience in designing mobile phones. The phone has a spot for the SIM card to be input. It offers quick dial and can also be used as a flashlight. It’s about the size of a credit card and best thing is that is lasts for 20 days on a single charge.

The phone costs $100 and comes with 500 pre-paid minutes. You can use a USB to charge the phone. And most likely it’s best feature the phone should not need to be replaced. Like I said earlier. This is a basic phone with enough technology for you to make and receive calls. Imagine having an actual dinner with someone and not taking pictures of your food or drinks.

According to the designers "We are not against tech at all (clearly we joined an incubator and have a passion for this) but we think that maybe we need to put the human first in tech again and think about what kind of tech will make our lives better in the long term."
