THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – SUMMER’S APPROACHING BUT NOT SOON ENOUGH FOR CHICAGOANS!

Believe it or not summer is approaching but not soon enough for us Chicagoans as we welcome our lively summer festival season for 2015!

The 20th annual Chicago Mayfest kicks-off street festival season at Ashland and Barry Avenues (3100 N. Ashland Ave.) in the Lakeview neighborhood this Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. rain or shine. This year’s fest features German food plenty of brews at an outdoor beer garden local merchant shopping and live music under a giant tent known to be one of the largest in the City! The fun continues with a Chicago Kids Day providing activities for kids and families with games raffle prizes arts & crafts fun balloons and other fun activities along with a Chicago Pet Pageant and Expo for your favorite four-legged furry family members to enjoy the start of summer as well!!

It’s time again to grab a glass and hit the floor at this year’s Wine Riot Chicago at Union Station’s Great Hall (500 W. Jackson Blvd.) in the West Loop this Saturday with Riot 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Riot 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Not only will you have access to hundreds of new wines from across the globe but you’ll be able to enjoy special features such as Wine 101 Bubbly Bar (taste test 6 sparkling wines) Crash Courses Tattoos (temporary ones) a Photo Booth DJ Andie Cassette and more as you travel the world of wine under one roof!

How well do you know the City of Chicago? Find out at this year’s CityScape Scavenger Fun Run where teams of up to 6 use their wits teamwork mapping skills and life lines to choose the quickest route to the finish line in this 5K or 10K “fun run” meeting up at Moe’s Cantina (155 W. Kinzie St.) in the River North neighborhood this Saturday with check-in at 11:00 a.m. and race beginning at 12:00 p.m.! Don’t forget to bring your smart phone pen or pencil and $10 each in singles for public transportation as you hopefully are the first team to vault across the finish line to receive cash prizes and a line of high-fives!!

All you Harry Potter fans out there (both young and old) get ready for Watson Adventures’ Wizard School Scavenger Hunt taking place at the Art Institute of Chicago (111 S. Michigan Ave.) in The Loop this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Follow in the footsteps of young wizards as you go in search of art that echoes places characters and enchanted objects in the famed Harry Potter movies and books but beware of the Hagrid-like giants dragons flying owls centaurs and unicorns from the Forbidden Forest as well as eerie figures scarier than the Death Eaters or Dementors!

Finally I’ve saved the best for last:

The Chicago Dessert Fest is taking place at John Barleycorn (149 W. Kinzie St.) in the River North neighborhood this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sample desserts wine & champagne from some of Chicago’s best restaurants bakeries and vendors while determining which desserts are the best! All samples are included in the ticket price along with a Free ride from Uber (up to $30) and $20 in Free dry cleaning and laundry from Washio!!

The Long Grove Chocolate Fest will be held in Downtown Long Grove (Old McHenry Rd. and Robert Parker Coffin Rd.) on Saturday (10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.) for a weekend of chocolate! Sample a variety of gourmet chocolate sweets at local shops and restaurants and enjoy live music from local musicians with Sixteen Candles closing the fest on Saturday and American English on Sunday while the kids spend their time at the expanded Kid Zone featuring organized games of tug of war three-legged races rides face painting roaming balloon artists a mystical magician and much more!! It may take a while to get to Long Grove but it’s definitely worth the trip for Chocolate!!!
