A new business is celebrating with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony tonight Thursday 5/14 from 5:00 to 5:30pm. Mayor Tisdahl and the Evanston Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to welcome The Spice & Tea Exchange to the community. As founder Clay Freeman would say "Come In and Smell the Spices!®" It’s their tagline.
NORWOOD PARK
Ada’s Market & Deli is officially open as of today but is celebrating its Grand Opening on Saturday 5/16 at 7:00am at 6165 N. Northwest Hwy. There will be free samples face painting and balloon animals for the kids plus the first 50 customers will receive a prize coupon book. Come and welcome the new grocery store to the neighborhood!
LAKEVIEW
The LGBT (lesbian gay bisexual and transgender) health and social service provider Howard Brown Health Center (4025 N. Sheridan Rd) has partnered with the Legal Assistance Foundation and AIDS Legal Council of Chicago to offer weekly clinics to their clients who are in need of legal assistance. This is a great addition to the already extensive list of service and programs provided through the center which include counseling smoking cessation classes HIV/AIDS services walk-in STD testing clinic pediatric care and much more.
WEST LOOP
Demolition of the site that was once Carmichael’s Chicago Steak House began this week with the removal of trees in its landscaped courtyard. The courtyard had been open to the public since the restaurant closed in March but plans to rezone and turn the land at 1050 and 1060 W. Monroe St. into a large apartment building need to begin sooner than later to deter squatters that have been settling in recently.
GOLD COAST
The new nightclub Room Seven opened last Saturday 5/9 at 7 W. Division St. and plans to run strong as the weather heats up. Founded by two brothers Mert and Baris Hurmeydan the club hosts djs spinning pop and house music from 9:00pm to 4:00am Thursday Friday and Sunday and 10:pm to 5:00am on Saturdays.
