PORTAGE PARK

The weather’s been lovely so you know what season it is. Construction Season! Well here’s the scoop on work that’s being done right by Patio Theater at the intersection of Irving Park Rd & Austin Ave. They’re building a "People Spot." According to DNAinfo.com it’s part of a larger city project and will "transform parking spots into playful places for people to gather" to spruce up and bring foot traffic to the business district. They plan to be finished before July. In the meantime you can check out the two existing People Spots in the Lakeview neighborhood at 2959 N. Lincoln Ave. and 3553 N. Southport Ave.

LINCOLN PARK

There’s a new cuisine fusion to explore in the area – De Quay (2470 N Lincoln Ave.) This is not to be confused with Quay Restaurant & Bar in Streeterville. De Quay created by Chef David de Quay melds together the flavors of Dutch and Indonesian cuisines. Apparently Indonesian food is popular in Amsterdam due to a rich trading history and the restaurant concept is the product of Chef de Quay’s upbringing when he would visit his grandmother in the Netherlands. De Quay opened just this past weekend and is open 5:00 – 10:00pm Tuesdays through Thursdays 5:00 -11:00pm Fridays and Saturdays and 5:00 – 9:00pm Sundays.

LOOP

There’s still time to start Mother’s Day weekend with a bang with dinner at one of the restaurants featuring special menus in honor of the annual culinary awards ceremony the James Beard Foundation Awards. The awards ceremony took place this past Monday 5/4 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago but restaurants featuring special menus will continue through tomorrow Friday 5/8. The Chicago Loop Alliance compiled a handy list of participating Loop establishments. Also see the list of James Beard Awards winners here.

NAPERVILLE

The WAR Chest Boutique at 4 E. Jefferson Ave. is holding a special Mother’s Day card-making day this Saturday 5/9 from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The boutique is a non-profit store front that’s operated by Women At Risk International. Inventory is sourced through domestic and international programs that support rescued and at-risk women. Come in to purchase a meaningful gift for Mom and let her know how much you care by creating a unique card using decorations and materials supplied by the Boutique.

RAVENSWOOD

Monday morning 5/11 will bring a welcome change to Ravenswood westbound Metra commuters. Finally the uncovered temporary platform in that direction will no longer be necessary now that the westbound platform is fully operational. Eastbound commuters will need to remain patient since Metra officials don’t expect that side to be complete until late 2017 or early 2018.
