KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – DAWN® DISHWASHING LIQUID HAS MANY USES
Merry Maids® uses Dawn to clean windows and also as an all-purpose cleaner. For the windows mix 3 drops of Dawn in a gallon of water. Put in a spray bottle and use as you would any spray window cleaner. Use it also on woodwork and wainscoting dry as you go. Use on kitchen and bathroom counters and sinks. Fill a spray bottle halfway with vinegar and the other half Dawn. Mix well and spray on shower walls and doors and tubs. Let set for a few minutes then rinse.
Clean kiddie pools with straight Dawn and a sponge. Clean and sanitized. Cleaners containing bleach will weaken the plastic in the sun. Dawn is also effective in the big pool too! Squirt Dawn down the middle and all dirt and suntan oil will go to the edges of the pool where you can more easily remove it.
Pre-treat oil stains like butter lipstick ink cooking oil on clothing with Dawn scrub with a toothbrush and launder as usual. To remove paint from your hands mix Dawn with a little corn oil. Rub well. The solution will remove the grease and paint and is much easier on the skin than paint removers.
Dawn can be used as a clarifying shampoo. Use once a month to remove product buildup in your hair. We all know how kids can get into many greasy messes. Dawn is a gentle and effective cleaner for the kiddies. A few drops with water makes a great cleanser for oily skin. Bathe the dogs with Dawn. It kills fleas on contact and leaves their coat soft and shiny.
Repel insects on houseplants. Put a drop in a spray bottle with water. Spray on the leaves and make sure you get the undersides of the leaves also. Many bugs hide here.
Make an ice pack. Fill a freezer Ziploc® bag with full strength Dawn. Close and freeze it stays much colder longer and can be refrozen many times. It stays pliable even when frozen.
