THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – “DOG DAYS OF SUMMER” CONTINUE IN CHICAGO!

Welcome to your first weekend in August!

The “dog days of summer” continue here in Chicago despite the lack of endless heat and humidity a true summer brings us for a weekend packed with outdoor activities!!

As tradition has it Lollapalooza returns to Grant Park (337 E. Randolph Street) in The Loop for its annual three-day music fest. At last check (11:30 a.m. – Aug. 1st) the only tickets available for purchase are the Platinum Passes. Not to fret though because there are still many After Shows which are not sold out yet for both Saturday and Sunday. The only thing missing are the food and merchandise vendors as well as other activities for those with tickets to Lolla. Remember the early bird gets the worm!!

Calling all Chicago Bears fans! Here’s your opportunity to see the Chicago Bears practice at Soldier Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Drive) in the South Loop on Saturday (outdoor activities are from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.) at the 2014 Chicago Bears Meijer Family Fest! Not only will fans be able to watch their beloved Bears practice at 6:45 p.m. but they will also be able to visit the stadium partake in family-friendly games and outdoor activities enjoy some live music & giveaways see a firework show after practice and more!

Moving right along next we have the Wrigleyville Summerfest taking place at 3300 N. Seminary Avenue in the Wrigleyville neighborhood on Saturday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) featuring local food and merchandise vendors live music with Too White Crew on Saturday (8:00 p.m.) and Hairbangers Ball on Sunday (7:00 p.m.) and their popular Kids’ Zone featuring a wide-range of activities that include a giant 26’ slide a moon bounce mini golf face painting games arts & crafts and more!

Next there’s a celebration of all things Central and South American at the Taste of Latin America in the Logan Square neighborhood at Armitage and Central Park Avenues (3600 W. Armitage Avenue) on Saturday (11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.). This fairly-new fest offers both eclectic and exotic cuisine cooking demonstrations arts & crafts live music and much more!

One of my favorite annual events is the National Cheesecake Week Celebration hosted by Eli’s Cheesecake Bakery Café (6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive) in the Dunning neighborhood which wraps up this weekend. Saturday (9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) is Customer Appreciation Day featuring FREE cheesecake samples cheesecake games a Big Store Sale and a chance to meet Eli’s Big Slice Mascot! Sunday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) features a Classic Car Show grilled lunch for purchase (11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) a live DJ and another chance to meet the Big Slice Mascot and have a photo op with the Cheesecake Mobile!

Lastly the Skyline Queen is once again offering dog owners an opportunity to cruise on Chicago’s waterways with their four-legged furry family members on a Mercury Canine Cruise! These cruises are offered on Sundays through September 28th departing at 10:00 a.m. from 112 E. Wacker Drive in the Streeterville neighborhood for a 90-minute river and lake cruise! It’s an adventure your canine will never forget!! Nor You for that matter!

And finally the 2014 Chicago Movies in the Parks series features the following movies at dusk weather permitting and free admission at the following parks!
