TECHNOLOGY TIPS – COMPENSATION FOR POTHOLE DAMAGE

TECHNOLOGY TIPS – COMPENSATION FOR POTHOLE DAMAGE

Each year as Spring breaks the City of Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) takes to the streets literally. You’ve probably seen the many areas where crews are working to catch up on pothole repairs. CDOT’s primary focus is repairing arterial streets and some residents are finding them on the residential streets.

As lots of Chicagoans know the alleys are also a big problem. Many people park their cars in garages or use alleys to navigate the busy streets. The alley potholes will be addressed after the arterial and residential streets are repaired so be forewarned if your favorite shortcut is a little patchy.

The reason I’m sharing all this information is that you may be entitled to compensation from the City of Chicago for some or all of the costs you incurred due to pothole damage. You can submit a claim with the City Clerk. According to the website: "In most cities/towns if you found yourself in a situation like above you would be required to file a case with the small claims court or similar county court system. In Chicago however claims such as these are reviewed and settled by the Chicago City Council passing an ordinance to award damages."

And a quick reminder the Chicago City Clerk is moving to Year-Round Vehicle Sticker sales. Customer service is the driving factor for the change and is going to create efficiencies for us consumers.
