THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – KEEPING BUSY UNTIL ARRIVAL OF SUMMER!

Entering into another spring month means we’re drawing ever so close to kicking off another summer season here in Chicago with fests feasts and plenty of outdoor fun! But until then we’ll have to keep ourselves busy in other ways!

The Kentucky Derby takes place this Saturday in Louisville; however if you’re not able to attend personally several establishments throughout the City will bring the experience to you here in Chicago for the Best 2 Minutes in Sports! Two such events are –

Derby For A Cause hosted by the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois’ Young Professionals at Moe’s Cantina (155 W. Kinzie Street) in the River North neighborhood from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. features a great spread of unlimited heavy appetizers beer & wine with mint juleps and other cocktails available for purchase along with a silent auction contests and plenty of TVs to watch the Derby! It’s a Cheer and Charity event!!

Derby Days Street Festival hosted by Joe’s Sports Bar (940 W. Weed Street) on the Near North Side from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. features the next best thing to the infield at Churchill Downs with a jumbotron displaying the Run for the Roses along with the only off-track betting facility in the City! Guests will also be able to participate in Derby-themed activities with plenty of food beer tents and live music from the country band Smoke ‘n Guns on hand!

Cinco de Mayo a celebration of Mexican culture that’s enjoyed worldwide will be celebrated over the weekend here in Chicago (falls on a work day this year) with the following events –

Cinco de Mayo Festival takes place in the Little Village neighborhood at 2600 S. Kostner Avenue (26th Street & Kostner Avenue) this Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This annual fest features plenty of food live music arts & crafts carnival rides kids’ activities and more!

AFAM Cinco de Mayo Celebration takes place in The Loop at Cactus Bar & Grill (404 S. Wells Street) this Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It’s a celebration of a free nacho bar along with bottomless margaritas sangria domestic draft beers and soda until 8:30 p.m. with party favors a birthday cake from Mariano’s raffles music and more!

Cinco de Mayo Piñata Party takes place in the Lincoln Park neighborhood at Lincoln Park Zoo (2200 N. Cannon Drive) this Sunday at 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This event not only lets the kids build their own piñatas but also takes them on an excursion through the zoo to watch the animals tear apart pre-made party piñatas!

Finally the 10th Annual Run to Remember takes place this Saturday (8:00 a.m.) at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park (18th Street & Waldron Drive) just east of Soldier Field in the South Loop. This benefit for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation not only features an after party with appearances by the K-9 unit the CPD mounted unit and helicopter unit but also features a kids’ activities area and more all for a GREAT cause!
