TECHNOLOGY TIPS – XBOX SECURITY BREACHED BY A 5-YEAR OLD

Every once in a while you hear about these amazing stories and simply have to share. Kristoffer von Hassel aged 5 found a security vulnerability in his Dad’s Xbox One this past March.

While doing something he knew he shouldn’t young Kristoffer wanted to play a game on his father’s Xbox but could not initially get in. When asked for a password he hit the space bar multiple times and then hit enter. That’s all it took and Kristoffer was playing the game he was not supposed to be playing. The irony of the situation is that Kristoffer was nervous he would get in trouble so he confessed.

Thankfully Dad is a computer programmer and they reported the bug to Microsoft. Microsoft took this breach seriously and created a patch in the March updates while also giving Kristoffer a security researcher credit.

When interviewed by the local news Kristoffer’s reaction "I’m gonna be famous."
