THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – COULD ‘OLE MAN WINTER BE GONE!

THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – COULD ‘OLE MAN WINTER BE GONE!

Welcome to April! You know we’re heading in the right direction when Chicago’s high temps stay consistently above 32° with wind chills no longer below zero!! But we’re not yet where we should be or want to be so to help shed the weight of ‘ole man winter and get us going in the right direction here’s what’s up this weekend.

They say laughter is the best medicine and there’s no better way to shed ‘ole man winter than at the 17th annual Chicago Improv Festival being held at various locations throughout Chicago such as the Annoyance Theater (4830 N. Broadway Street) in the Uptown neighborhood the UP Comedy Club (230 W. North Avenue) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood the Chemically Imbalanced Theater (1420 W. Irving Park Road) in the Lakeview neighborhood ph Productions (1515 W. Berwyn Avenue) in the Andersonville neighborhood Second City (1616 N. Wells Street) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and many others. This week-long largest and longest running festival wraps-up this weekend with a variety of improv shows workshops and short films. And since improv comes without a script there’s a good chance you’ll laugh so hard your stomach will hurt tears will be running down your face and/or your beverage will be shooting out of your mouth or maybe even your nostrils! HA-HA-HA ….

New this year to the Windy City’s running events is the Chicago Quarter Marathon this Saturday (9:15 a.m.) at Soldier Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Drive) in the South Loop. This 6.55-mile run will take you south along the Lake Michigan shoreline and loop back to Soldier Field for a post-race party with snacks awards and live entertainment! Also all those participating in the run will receive a gender-specific full-zip embroidered fleece. But best of all this event benefits “Prevent Child Abuse America!!” It’s time to put the boots away and dust off those running shoes!

The 4th annual House of Cards Casino Night takes place at the Chop Shop (2033 W. North Avenue) in the Wicker Park neighborhood on Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Hosted by the Marillac St. Vincent Family Services Associate Board this event will benefit children of low-income families by featuring an evening of blackjack craps roulette and more along with hors d’ouevres cocktails live music dancing raffles silent auctions and more!

And finally with Easter right-around corner there’s no better time than the present to begin celebrating spring at these events –

Autism Awareness Easter Hunt features two egg hunts one outside and one in the pool at the Irving Park YMCA (4251 W. Irving Park Road) in the Irving Park neighborhood this Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. But there’s more featured at this 2nd annual Easter hunt such as arts & crafts sensory tables obstacle courses family yoga and more!

Egg-stravaganza Dog Easter Egg Hunt held at Rex’s Place (2120 Ashland Avenue) in Evanston on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. which features an egg hunt for Fido (eggs filled with dog biscuits and toys) and their human (eggs filled with chocolate bars and restaurant gift certificates) and more! Plus photos with the Easter bunny are available for $5 with all money being raised at this event going directly to the homeless rabbits at Red Door!
