TECHNOLOGY TIPS – CHROMECAST

You have probably seen the commercials at this point regarding Chromecast from Google. It looks like a thumb drive you plug into your computer so that you can use apps from your devices or direct from your desktop computer. The apps that currently work with this plug-in are Netflix Hulu Pandora HBO Go Google Play TV & Movies Google Play Music and YouTube.

The service requires that you first have Google Chrome loaded on your computer or device. You then add the Google Cast add-in to Chrome. This will allow you to use the optimized sites listed above. It will also allow you to cast (view) any Chrome tab on your TV. It also requires that you have WiFi to utilize the service but what a great way to not have wires running all over the place.

With only these three steps: plug in the Chromecast drive set up Google Cast connect your device(s) to your TV; you can now view anything from not only Chrome but also the apps. It’s a great new affordable device at $35 and is less expensive version of other competitive devices like the Roku or AppleTV.
