THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – IT’S GOING BACK TO STREET FESTS TIME!


First week of going back to school is completed. Now it’s going back to street fests time for this extended Labor Day Holiday weekend!

Chicago’s longest running musical event of the summer the
Chicago Jazz Festival returns to Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph Street) in The Loop for its 35th annual Labor Day weekend festival on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This fest showcases free jazz performances from local national and international musicians which include The Frank Russell Band the Nick Mozzarella Trio Jason Moran on Saturday and the Julie Wood Quintet Papo Vazquez and Donald Harrison on Sunday among others. Also featured at this year’s fest is an Art Fair with Charlie Black raised in Chicago as the Official Artist among others who will be displaying their works in painting jewelry handmade masks fiber wearable/clothing mixed media/fiber decorative and more! You don’t have to be a jazz junky to attend either!!

Returning for a fourth year the North Coast Music Festival sets up stage at Union Park (1501 W. Randolph Street) on the Near West side this Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. With over 60 performers this fest brings in some of the biggest names spanning from rock to rap to electronic to hip-hop to indie rock music and more which include performances by Passion Pit Just Blaze Gramatik Big Gigantic Danny Brown Purity Ring among many others. Here’s your chance to check out something you’ve never heard before!

Top BBQ chefs from throughout Chicago compete at this year’s first ever Chicago HogFight for the coveted title of “Hog-Father” and $1000 in prize money located at Mahoney’s Pub & Grille (551 N. Ogden Avenue) in the West Town neighborhood on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendees can enjoy all-you-can-eat BBQ throughout the day for only $25!

The National Latin American Festival will be celebrating again this year Central American South American and Caribbean culture at Riis Park (6100 W. Fullerton Avenue) in the Belmont/Cragin neighborhood on Saturday Sunday and Monday beginning at 12:00 p.m. This fest features a community area; live entertainment with musical acts representing over 30 Latin American countries; vendors offering Latin American cuisine artisan booths two beer gardens and more; a Kid Zone that includes bounce houses a playground area the Fire Department’s “Get Out Alive” trailer and more; a beauty pageant; cultural presentations a carnival and much much more!

The annual indoor-outdoor Taste of Polonia returns to the Copernicus Center (5216 W. Lawrence Avenue) in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Five stages of live music from 36 bands for every taste such as rock pop jazz polka etc. will be featured as well as a variety of Polish food favorites and traditional menus a casino arcade games free cooking classes a Kids Stage and activities a Festival Market place and more!

Finally this weekend’s 2013 Chicago Movies in the Parks series features the following movies at dusk weather permitting and free admission!
