NORWOOD PARK

Change is happening at the Midwest headquarters for the Passionist Brothers which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The monastery is 110 years old. This past July 24th the City Council approved a senior housing complex to be built as an addition behind the beautiful brick building. A total of 84 apartments will be built and set aside for seniors 62 and older. According to Robert Gawronski “One of the great this this development will do is provide a nice endowment for the ongoing mission of the order.”

LINCOLN SQUARE

Local Angie’s Bar owner Angie Shkundrich will be celebrating 25 years of ownership this Friday. Shkundrich embodies the story of the American Dream when back in 1972 she left Serbia to join her sister and brother-in-law in Chicago. Known to the neighborhood as St. Angie regular Mike Dixon commented that she’s “changed a lot of lives in this neighborhood.” Shkundrich simply says “If they need food job apartment for a couple months they can move in with me. I was raised like that to share. My father was the same way.”

LAKEVIEW

I don’t know about you but this is an amazing find in Lakeview. Pressbox 24/7 is a new laundry service located at 2936 N. Lincoln Ave. The premise is extremely easy. You drop off your laundry and/or dry-cleaning in a locker. You text Pressbox to let them know it’s there. Once everything is clean you get a text from Pressbox to pick up your freshly laundered clothes. You can set up a profile with preferences like detergents and starches.

It’s time to mark your calendars for Thursday September 12 from 5-10pm. On this night only you can join the Pop-Up Art Loop for ACTIVATE. Head over to Couch Place near the intersection of State and Lake streets to enjoy an evening of art celebration. You’ll see stilt-walkers jugglers interactive art exhibits listen to DJs among other fun surprises. The evening of is provided by House of Frog and is free and open to the public.

EVANSTON

Evanston Library is making the transition to increase e-reader usage. Compared to June last year the use of e-books increased 59%. The library is participating in a website called My Media Mall where readers can check out a variety of e-books or audiobooks. You simply enter your library card number choose “check that book out” and then download it to your device. According to Lesley Williams the library is “not transitioning we’re just using both.” Though e-readership is up most patrons prefer the physical book. One of the main reasons for using an e-book “it saves my back.”
