Mark your calendars now for the 4th Annual Picnic for Children with Autism on September 8 from 12-4pm at LaBagh Woods. Local resident Shirley Craven a social worker did some research about grandparents of children with autism. There was nothing she could find and she started Grandparents United for Autism. According to Craven "People forget the impact autism can have on grandparents. They call it a sandwich – you’re worried about your grandkids of course but also your adult kids and how hard they work."
LAKEVIEW
Time to try some new Asian street food at the recently opened Four Belly. Since the location is in soft open it will be BYOB for a few months. Once the full menu is completed you’ll be able to enjoy delicacies like garlic and pepper frog legs fried caterpillars and bulgogi to name a few so bring along a couple foodies. The owner operates the Nori sushi shops and will not be featuring any sushi in this location. They are located at 3227 N. Clark – right off the red line.

This past Wednesday you may have noticed a new sculpture in the Gateway Public Plaza at State and Lake streets. The work called Give by Dusty Folwarczny has many meanings. The colors pink and gold are approachable. The industrial material speaks to the "L" train. The circle is a traditional symbol for female. Executive director of the Chicago Loop Alliance Michael Edwards said "We’re creating places for people to enjoy the city. We are hoping to replicate this in Riverwalk Pritzker Park and Couch Place." Not only was the piece placed in the plaza to increase aesthetic appeal but also to draw commerce to the local area.
RAVENSWOOD
This weekend is the 10-year celebration of Lillstreet Art Center in Ravenswood. Friday night’s reception from 6-8pm is the 6th Annual Lillstreet International judging of Ceramics for the Coffee Ritual. Make a day of it on Saturday for either the Fall Open House from 12-4pm or the Block Party from 4-7pm. Sunday’s event Chicago Craft & Business includes a craft fair and hands-on craft workshop. OAK PARK
Local resident Christine Steyer will be playing Violetta Valery in Verismo Opera Theater’s production of La Traviata this Saturday at The Arts Center. Described as a rags to riches to rags story the story is an adaptation of the novel The Lady of the Camellias written by Alexandre Dumas’ son who was one of the lovers of the real "Violetta." The intimate venue is staging the set in 1915 Oak Park with the sets costumes and overall atmosphere inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.
