Ok enough with the snow already! Are you ready for March? Well Chicago is —

The Cactus Bar & Grill (404 S. Wells Street) in The Loop is hosting this Saturday (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) the Dog Days of Winter with a Hawaiian luau beach party that benefits the Chicago-based K9 4 KEEPS Rescue. This event features drinks summer-themed activities caricatures by David Curbis massages by Jessica Garcia a silent auction raffle prizes and a mid-evening "surprise" performance. The cold and snow may still be lingering but spring is on the horizon due to arrive in Chicago on March 20th!

Watson Adventures will be hosting their Wizard School Scavenger Hunt at the Art Institute (111 S. Michigan Avenue) in The Loop this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. This event is for Harry Potter fans ages 10 and up who will be in search of art that is reminiscent of characters places and enchanted objects from the Harry Potter books and movies. This hunt is designed for kids and adults to do together and is a great way to discover or rediscover the museum! Note no snow involved!!

So you say you like the cold and snow? Well the Morton Arboretum (4100 Illinois Rt. 53) in Lisle (a suburb west of the Chicago Loop) is hosting this Saturday as well as next Saturday (March 9th) and the following (March 16th) a Maple Tapping and Pancake Picnic from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Not only will you learn about the history of maple tapping and how it’s done but you’ll be able to taste the maple syrup at an outdoor pancake picnic by a cozy fire! Be sure to bundle up!!

Now back to March! Kick-off this year’s St. Patrick’s Day season in style at one of these pre-events:

The 14th annual Chicago Irish Film Festival opens Friday March 1st and runs through Wednesday March 6th at various locations throughout Chicago. Saturday’s event will be held at the AMC River East Theater (322 E. Illinois Street) on the Near North Side. Films being shown are: "Keys to the City" (5:30 p.m.) where three Dubliners find themselves struggling to stay afloat in the European economic downturn; and "Earthbound" (7:30 p.m.) where a young man searches for his soul mate in an alien world … ours! Sunday’s event will be held at Society for Arts (1112 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in the Noble Square neighborhood with the "Short Program I" at 1:30 p.m. and the viewing of "Congo: An Irish Affair" at 3:30 p.m.

The 5th annual St. Practice Day Pub Crawl takes place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. beginning at Timothy O’Toole’s (622 N. Fairbanks Court) in the Streeterville neighborhood. This crawl takes you to four Streeterville bars – Timothy O’Toole’s (7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) D4 (9:00 p.m.-9:45 p.m.) Quay (10:00 p.m.-10:45 p.m.) and Lizzie McNeill’s (11:00 p.m.-11:45 p.m.) as well as includes drink specials and giveaways. So it’s time to pull out and dust off your green wear as you begin your pub crawl in preparation of St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th)!

The 3rd annual American Ireland Fund Green Gala takes place on Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Willis Tower 99th Floor (233 S. Wacker Drive) in The Loop. This year’s event will honor special guest Robbie Gould from the Chicago Bears with the 2013 Leadership Award. Robbie graduated from Penn State University in 2005 and joined with the Chicago Bears that year has scored over 900 career points for the Bears and holds the distinction of being the 4th most accurate kicker in NFL history! Guests will also be able to enjoy live music from Gareth Woods and DJ Cal have exclusive SkyDeck (103rd floor) access for an additional $10 fee and participate in raffles live and silent auctions with some great prizes! And if that weren’t enough guests can attend an exclusive after party at The Gage (24 S. Michigan Avenue) in The Loop steps from Millennium Park!!
