The Music Box Theatre’s 70mm Festival arrives this weekend and runs through February 28th at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood. For those of you not familiar with 70mm film it’s a format that allows for more information and more visual clarity than its 35mm film counterpart. There is a depth to the image unlike that shot in 35mm and of course very different from digital projection which is used today. 70mm films became popular in the ‘40’s through the ‘80’s; however few people have had the chance to see true 70mm presentation since it all but disappeared when DTS sound and Dolby Surround were introduced to cinemas.
