LINCOLN PARK

There’s going to be a lot of talk about jambalaya and crawdads in the next few days. But an old-fashioned New England crab boil-your choice of three pounds of Maryland blue crabs or Bering Sea Dungeness-is also available now. However it’s strictly BYO beads. Head over to Fish Bar in Lincoln Park to enjoy this amazing fare.

SOUTH LOOP

Umai a rustic Japanese cabin with grand corner views has opened to beckon you to Printers Row with fresh nigiri warm bowls of sukiyaki and plenty of wine and sake. For lunch there’s sort of a Pacific Rim thing going on in the form of a Hawaiian staple called loco moco: a hamburger with gravy and rice topped with an egg. And for dinner you have to try a wave of shrimp dumplings teriyaki steaks udon noodles and a shrimp tempura roll topped with seared squid called Goosebumps.

GOLD COAST

Now soft-open for your inspection: Flour & Stone a Streeterville pie-maker that wants to help you experience pizza the way the Streisands the Spike Lees and the Jay-Zs have for eons. Say hello to Brooklyn-style pizza which is not the big floppy foldable elephant-ear slices that you pick up from your favorite NYC corner joint. Instead the hand-tossed dough is cooked in a slightly cooler oven and offers a nice chewy center with just a bit of crunch on the crust. Come watch your pizza being made downstairs or simply stay upstairs to enjoy a pizza topped with artisanal sausage bacon and anchovies.

EVANSTON

Tuesday is Paczki Day and Fat Tuesday. But Saturday is when the Super Bowl of paczki-eating contests occurs. Stuff enough in your mouth and you and a partner could win $300. And if you don’t win well just think of all those wonderful paczkis you just stuffed in your mouth. Enjoy the fun at Bennison’s Bakery this Saturday at 2pm. They are still taking entries if you want to compete.
