THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – WHERE ARE CHICAGO’S WINTER PLEASURES?

Ok what’s up with a snowless January here in Chicago? We can’t enjoy our usual winter pleasures so what do we do now? Laugh it off!!

This is the last weekend of the 12th Annual Sketch Comedy Festival being held at Stage 773 (1225 West Belmont Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival debuted in January of 2002 and lasted six weeks. Now billed as the largest sketch comedy festival America has ever seen and running for two weeks more than 800 artists from 130 sketch comedy troupes will have performed over 170 shows by Sunday evening. Sketch comedy experts will be on hand as well to educate and entertain participants and the public with stores and advice!

Second City (1616 North Wells Street) in the Lincoln Park/Uptown neighborhood kicks off another election cycle with its 100th Revue of Who Do We Think We Are? On Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. With this country’s politics increasingly being personality driven this revue will explore the good the bad and the ridiculous that apparently makes us uniquely American and more importantly human!

In this age of Facebook Twitter and all other 21st century technology Second City (1616 North Wells Street) in the Lincoln Park/Uptown neighborhood pokes fun at human interactions or lack thereof with songs sketches and short scenes with its 36th Revue of We’re All in this Room Together on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. One of the top winners at this year’s Jeff Awards this revue has been lauded with praise from both audiences and critics and is a sure bet for a huge laugh!

This long-running main stage show ComedySportz held at the ComedySportz Theatre (929 West Belmont Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood provides a blend of fast and funny improv comedy that is appropriate for all ages. Two teams of comedians compete in short-form improv games with a referee calling fouls and awarding points; however it’s the audience who will crown the ultimate winner!

Finally whether you’re an avid outdoors enthusiast or not the 45th Annual Chicago Boat Sports & RV Show is in town Saturday (10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) at McCormick Place – North Building (2301 South Lake Shore Drive) on the Near South Side. This is a one-stop marketplace for outdoor fun where you can see and board hundreds of boats explore the latest model RVs and visit lodges and resorts to plan this year’s vacation. This is the best place to shop compare and save!

The Welcome to the Water Center is a one-stop resource for boating information and advice. Get straightforward answers on all your boating questions or get expert unbiased advice on the boat that best suits your lifestyle or to help you get started with boating many local resources will be on hand.
