LOOP

This week is Bike to Work Week in Chicago. In case you’ve missed the events so far the best is yet to come on Friday. There will be a Bike to Work Rally held in Daley Plaza. Start your day with the City of Chicago and Goose Island Beer Co. at the rally to celebrate Chicago’s commitment to being the best big city for bicycling with a world class bike network. Get your free t-shirt at the Bike to Work Rally on June 15 beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 9:30 am.

PORTAGE PARK

It’s Guinness World Record attempt time again. This time the Portage Park Neighborhood Association in association with the Portage Theater are attempting to beat the current record of "Most People Wearing Sunglasses in the Dark." The inspiration came from the 1983 Corey Hart cult classic "Sunglasses at Night." The event is free and coincides with the annual Six Corner’s Bar-B-Q Street Festival being held this weekend.

GOLD COAST

Drumbar an elegant perch atop the Raffaello Hotel opened last Friday to tweak the altitude at which you can enjoy a nice glass of scotch. Start on the sidewalk and speak with Mr. Brazil (yes his real name). A hostess will whisk you to a private elevator. Another hostess will guide you down a barrel-vaulted corridor into what was once the hotelier’s private residence. You’ll make a right then walk under high ceilings and past arched windows to a waiting table on a terrace. Here you’ll order a Rose made tableside and drink in the astonishing views of the city: the lake the Hancock Water Tower Place.

EVANSTON

With the street festival season in bloom along with street sweeping it’s helpful to have a tool that can notify you of street sweeping operations on your street. The City of Evanston has launched a new tool that will allow residents to sign up for either text message or e-mail alerts to remind them of these parking restrictions. The notification comes one to two days prior so you have notice and can move your car accordingly. It’s a great way to prevent tickets.
