PORTAGE PARK

Mmm sushi. When it’s time for a casual and affordable dinner come to this newly opened spot at 5056 W. Irving Park Road. E Wok Café Hibachi & Sushi Grill opened just in time for the holidays on December 22nd. It’s a neighborhood place for take-in or eat out. Don’t miss some pretty darn good food at great prices.

LOOP

The Option Room a tiny wood-paneled saloon tucked on a side street in the Financial District is now open. It’s located in the front of the LaSalle Atrium Building-the onetime Fort Dearborn Hotel from 1912-and still has the original checkerboard tile and wood paneling now highly polished and accented with gilded mirrors and chandeliers dripping with crystals.

LAKE VIEW

Fuji Sushi Buffet claims to have the largest buffet of its kind in Chicago. They opened at 3026 N. Ashland with more than 50 types of sushi and sashimi. Fuji also has hibachi teriyaki seafood and hot Japanese dishes. With an affordable buffet starting at $10.95 this is sure to be a neighborhood favorite.

LINCOLN SQUARE

After another 12 months of block-by-block evolution what ‘hoods will contend for the 2011 Curbed Cup’s Best Neighborhood Title? Lincoln Square and West Lakeview have made it to the final four. According to Curbed Chicago Lincoln Square offers cultural upgrades city investment in a nature preserve lots of good eating and Half-Acre brewery. Curbed Chicago says West Lakeview offers Southport Corridor and Wrigleyville and a ton of housing.

OAK PARK

Local artist Bryan Northup is aiding the movement to repair Garfield Park Conservatory with a limited edition art bowl created with glass shards from the conservatory’s damaged roof in the wake of a hail storm earlier this year. The conservatory was searching for ways to preserve the remnants from the June hail storm in time rather than simply tossing them. Proceeds are being split evenly between Northup and the conservatory which is putting those dollars toward restoring their damaged buildings.
