THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!

You guessed it! Valentine’s Day is this coming Monday and there is sure to be lots of love this weekend in Chicago’s air – warm air to boot – to spoil your special someone! There’s a lot of love so let’s get to it –

Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is your last chance to go and learn which plants provide the key ingredients for some of our favorite sweet treats at the Garfield Park Conservatory’s (300 N. Central Park Avenue) 3rd annual Sweet Saturdays. This veritable plant-based candy show is home to many living sweets such as cinnamon bark bananas vanilla beans and yes even chocolate trees! Spread throughout the Conservatory will be Tropical Treat Stations Hands-on Activity Stations for all ages Special Guest Stations such as learning about local Chicago sugar Live Music and much more! BTW "sampling" is part of the event!!

Logan Square Kitchen (2333 N. Milwaukee Avenue) brings you this Saturday and Sunday its Valentine’s Day Pastry Market. Local vendors will be selling cake ice cream pies handmade confections and other sweets for your "Sweetie."

Drop-off a non-perishable food item at the Central Lakeview Merchants Association (3355 N. Clark Street) in the Lakeview neighborhood Saturday through Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for their Share Your Love Food Drive and get a cupcake from Bittersweet Bakery! What a great idea!!

Of course there’s the traditional Valentine’s Day dinner with special menus throughout the Chicagoland area; however these two establishments have added a little something out of the ordinary –

Ciao! Café & Wine Lounge (939 W. Madison Street) in the West Loop neighborhood will be hosting their Sixth Annual Chocolate Lover’s Buffet this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Not only will you be dining on appetizers cocktails sides and entrees all made with chocolate but you will also get to view a screening of "A Walk in the Clouds."

Valentine’s Day at Geja’s Café (340 W. Armitage Avenue) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood offers a dinner package through Monday which includes a glass of sparkling rose a Gruyere cheese fondue a salad with Dijon vinaigrette an entrée fondue consisting of beef tenderloin jumbo shrimp and lobster tail and for dessert it’s a flaming chocolate fondue with coffee. The special perk here is you can either send your date seasonal flowers to confirm your reservation or opt for a unique table adornment at a discount!

Saturday night offers the following Valentine’s events –

The Rebel Bar & Grill (3462 N. Clark Street) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood will kick-off this year’s Cupid’s Crawl to four local bars (7:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. RSVP required). This Clark Street crawl is open to lovers and those seeking love this Valentine’s Day weekend. Interactive games and drink specials available at each stop along the way!

Fuze (2242 N. Lincoln Avenue) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood will be hosting A Valentine’s Masqueradenot massacre -from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. (no cover before midnight with RSVP). This Mardi Gras-themed bash will be handing out a mask and beads to the first 100 people which also includes a belly dancing performance a fashion show a raffle and much more!

The Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood will host this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. its Second Annual ‘Casablanca’ Sweetheart Sing-Along! Watch Casablanca a classic romantic film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman and join in a sing-along with love songs such as "You are My Sunshine." For $16 per person head across the street either before or afterwards to the Blue Bayou for an appetizer entrée for two and one dessert. A Valentine’s I’m sure you’ll never forget!!

Sunday between 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Lush Wine & Spirits will be hosting a Chocolate and Wine Tasting at each of their three locations – 2232 W. Roscoe Street (Roscoe Village) 1412 W. Chicago Avenue (West Town) and 1257 S. Halsted Street (Little Italy/University Village). It’s FREE!

And finally the greatest show in Chicago sets-up camp at McCormick Place (2301 S. Lake Shore Drive) this Saturday through Sunday February 20th with the Chicago Auto Show. Don’t know what to give a Valentine’s that has everything? Well bring them shopping to the largest auto show in the nation where they can browse through domestic/imported cars trucks and SUVs as well as alternative fuel and concept cars. I’m sure your Valentine will be able to find something!!
