LAKEVIEW

The spring and summer months in Chicago are usually the most active for us Chicagoans. We like to get out by the lake become tourists in our own city and just move around without the burden of coats gloves scarves hats etc.

Sometimes it feels as though we have gotten a little out of shape and experience some huffing and puffing while enjoying our activities. Is it allergies? Is it asthma? This weekend you can find out for sure.

The American College of Asthma Allergy and Immunology will be conducting free asthma screenings this Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm at the Century Shopping Centre at 2828 N. Clark. To learn more details click here.

SOUTH LOOP

It’s the centennial year of Burnham and Chicago is celebrating.

Daniel Burnham was an architect and city planner who created The Plan of Chicago one of the most noted documents in the history of city planning. It outlines the process through which the infrastructure of Chicago was engineered with its focus on the city’s social cultural and financial well-being noting that all are inseparable.

On Wednesday May 13th the South Loop Neighbors are hosting a discussion about the impact The Plan has had on our city. To read more about this event click here.

OLD TOWN

A new zoning change has been requested by JDL Development Corp in Old Town where Grossinger is currently located.

EVANSTON

In an effort to save the city additional funds Evanston officials are going garbage picking. No not literally!

In looking at the cost per household for city sanitation (currently $9.33) it was found that the city could save more than one million dollars annually if it contracted out a portion of its waste collection services and make other changes to the system.

In addition to this one cost cutting measure changes to the current yard waste collection system were also suggested. To read more click here.
