Who doesn’t enjoy a good bowl of pho the some-assembly-required Vietnamese broth and rice noodle soup that features an array of side accoutrements such as lime cilantro and bean sprouts? Here’s a new restaurant that won’t let us get away with mispronouncing this popular dish any longer. FUH has opened at 2218 N. Lincoln Ave. with a quick and unique take on serving Vietnamese cuisine. Similar to restaurants like Subway and Chipotle you order your pho quickly by choosing from a line of options to order. There’s also egg rolls spring rolls and … Asian churros on the menu.

LOOP

This year was a first for Hannah’s Bretzel the chain sandwich makers that have three locations in the Loop and West Loop areas – 180 W. Washington St 131 S. Dearborn St and 555 W. Monroe St. They held their first and hoping to be annual Emerging Chefs Challenge that awarded a $1000 scholarship to the local culinary student from Kendall College or Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts for their best sandwich idea. This year’s winner is the "Keen Wow De-Lite" sandwich by Australian transplant chef-in-training Joyce Mac. This vegetarian sandwich includes quinoa kale sundried tomatoes manchego cheese organic kettle chips pickled onions herb salad and jalapeños on a crusty baguette. Sounds interesting? Well the new sandwich will also be featured in all of Hannah’s Bretzel’s locations. Ask for the award-winning sandwich by name.

LINCOLN SQUARE

In case this weekend’s Square Roots Festival is a bit much for you there’s tons of local bands to check out for free in Chicago’s parks this summer. For example on Tuesday 7/14 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm the Welles Park Gazebo Concert Series (2333 W. Sunnyside Ave) will be hosting a free concert by the Monkees tribute band New Candy Store Prophets. It’s a great way to introduce the younger generations to these fun nostalgic pop songs.

O’Hare International Airport has been expanding by constructing newer runways some of which have been garnering noise complaints from residents near the east-west runways. In all fairness the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that 4 public meetings will be held in August to present information on new runway plans and allow residents to speak with FAA officials and consultants. Norwood Park’s Taft High School (6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave) will be holding their FAA public meeting from 1:00pm – 9:00pm on Tuesday 8/11. Start brainstorming about comments and questions in the meantime.
