THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – CHICAGO CURES ITS “CABIN FEVER!”

Last weekend we escorted “Ol’ Man Winter” back to where he belongs and now it’s time to cure our “cabin fever” with a myriad of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations taking place all weekend long since it officially falls on a week or should I say workday!

For over 40 years the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers have officially kicked-off Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with Dyeing the Chicago River Green and will do so again this year as we begin our cabin fever cure. The river dyeing takes place Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River. Your best views are from the East side of the Michigan Avenue bridge or the West side of the Columbus Drive bridge or upper and lower Wacker Drive between Michigan and Columbus!

Then it’s time to celebrate at the 60th anniversary of Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade which kicks-off at Noon at Balbo Avenue and Columbus Drive with your Grand Marshal William P. Hite General President of the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters as well as the Queen and her Court. This year’s Guests of Honor are the Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Police Department!

There are also two other parades in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day scheduled for Sunday in case you’re curing your cabin fever at other celebrations on Saturday –

The South Side Irish Parade which features a slew of bands Irish dancers floats and more will kick-off at Noon from Western Avenue and 103rd Street for this annual event!

The Northwest Side Irish Parade will kick-off at Noon from the William J. Onahan School (6634 W. Raven St.) in the Norwood Park neighborhood for its annual festive parade.
