It’s about time the Summer Solstice caught-up with us here in Chicago! After all we’ve been celebrating summer since Memorial Day Weekend!! Here’s what’s happening around Chi Town over the longest day of the year –

Celebrating June’s Pride Month the 12th annual Chicago Pride Fest returns to 3700 N. Halsted Street (Halsted Street and Waveland Avenue) in the Boystown/Lakeview neighborhoods on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. before next Sunday’s iconic Pride Parade. Highlights of this year’s fest features live music on two stages plenty of food and drink vendors arts & crafts and much more! Another fun-filled highlight takes place on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with the PetSmart Pet Pride Parade from the stage area. Dogs cats and other animal friends are welcome to join in the festive procession with best participants receiving gift certificates from local retailers!

Celebrating Chicago’s “green city” status the Wicker Park neighborhood will be hosting the Wicker Park Green Music Fest on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at 2000 W. North Avenue (Damen Avenue between North Avenue and Schiller Street). This innovative green event will feature live music on two stages from a variety of bands food vendors recycled arts & crafts demonstrations shopping from eco-friendly vendors and a Kids’ Fest with a bike wash a bounce house a mini golf course arts & crafts balloon animals games and more!

Buddy & Gracie my two “furry” kids encourage you to take part in this year’s 14th annual PAWS Chicago Run for Their Lives 8K Run/4K Walk on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Montrose Harbor (Simonds Drive & Montrose Avenue – Grove 16) in the Uptown neighborhood which benefits homeless animals. This family-friendly event features a pet button station a professional photo opportunity with “Strut Your Mutt” as a backdrop a pet fair and sponsor expo doggie splash pools a spa and agility course kids’ games and much much more! But most importantly this event is attempting to attain the Guinness World Record for “The Most Dogs in Costumed Attire” so be sure your furry kid is in the count!!

L.A.T.E. Ride: Light Up the Night returns this weekend for its 26th year celebrating the nocturnal bike ride. Join Friends of the Parks and nearly 9000 cyclists as they “Light Up the Night” with nightglow garb and light up trimmings both on themselves and their bikes as they wind through city neighborhoods and along the lakefront starting at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday for a 25-mile social ride ending at Buckingham Fountain around sunrise for some complimentary post-ride snacks. Also this year’s pit stop will be at Humboldt Park where riders can enjoy snacks and a live band before hitting the trail again to their final destination!

Finally the 2014 Chicago Movies in the Parks series features the following movies at dusk weather permitting and free admission at the following parks!
