TECHNOLOGY TIPS – WHY WE TWEET

If there was an expo with over 645 million people all interested in talking to one another and I offered you a free booth would you want it? I hope so! That is how many people are using Twitter. That is more than double the U.S. population! Your clients prospects and competitors are all there and it costs nothing to join.

Why use twitter? Here are my top five reasons why I tweet.
1) You control the content: Use your voice be authentic and engaging. Think of it as advertising reaching far beyond traditional ads. Oh and did I mention that it is FREE!
2) You get breaking news in real time: Who is the next pope? On what streets were the police following the Boston bomber? Who wore what best on the Golden Globes? All on twitter before any reporter can get it on air.
3) Tracking trends: Still trying to figure out why people #hashtag? It allows you to search your topic within your group of followers or on the entire twitter universe. Then hop in and join the conversation.
4) You get access to people in power (or celebrities if that is your thing): You can follow whomever you like. And unlike facebook posts which are mostly handled by PR firms for the famous tweets are usually directly from the source as it is happening.
5) Brevity is the soul of wit: You cannot imagine how funny witty or mean someone can be in 140 characters.

Don’t forget the rule of thirds:
1) You tweet about you and your business and products.
2) You retweet interesting and relevant tweets.
3) You engage people you follow.

On occasion it is okay to use abbreviations (LOL 2U etc etc) but for the most part tweets are not text messages between two teenagers so you are expected to use proper grammer. At first it is difficult to figure out how to get everything you want into 140 characters but you will get a hang of it after a while!

Last and not least keep it positive. Being mean is just not a good face for your business and no one likes a Debby Downer.
