KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – GOOD INTENTIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR

This time of year we see many people resolve to lose weight or perhaps save money for the new year. Gym memberships skyrocket and if you are a regular member I’m sure you’re aggravated with the "new year’s crowd". Never fear most will be gone before the end of the month!

If you really want to get healthier for the new year small changes can often have big results and are easier to stick with. Add a serving of fruit and also vegetables to your daily diet. These fill you up and provide many nutrients. Your plate should be two thirds vegetables and one third protein.

Keep healthy snacks in snack bags with you for those between meals cravings. I’m often working through dinner out doing showings or having meetings. I used to do drive throughs for a quick snack between stops but no more! I keep snack bags with raw walnuts and almonds an apple or tangerine or some whole wheat cracker snack. These are enough to curb the hunger and give you some quick energy.

We all need to move more than we do. Yoga and Pilates start out fairly mild and can have a lot of impact working on your core muscles. Hand weights are excellent to build muscle that burns fat and raises you metabolism. Try to find a way to add muscle movement into your day.

By making just a few changes you will notice a real difference in how you feel and look in the new year!
