NORWOOD PARK

There are some little known facts about Norwood Park that many visitors to Chicago rarely get to experience. Originally it was simply named Norwood after a town in a Henry Ward Beecher 1868 novel. When it was found that another town already had the name Norwood Park was born. The more famous settlers and visitors like Mark Noble and George W. Bush have given the area its rich history including Victorian-style homes Norwood Park Township and the now infamous Presidential Booth at Norwood Family Restaurant. Residents and visitors alike find the community has maintained its idyllic charm with beautifully maintained homes and park area.

LINCOLN PARK

By July 29 Lincoln Park neighborhood is adding five more Divvy bike share stations to the nine already existing. With plans to increase the program to 300 stations and 3000 bikes by the end of the summer Lincoln Park should see an additional 25 or so kiosks coming to the neighborhood. With an annual membership of $75 or 24-hour passes at $7 more than 2500 Chicagoans are taking advantage of this affordable transportation method.

SOUTH LOOP

The landmark former Chicago Main Post Office development plan has been approved by the City Council. The construction of the site would take more than two decades to complete with phase one expected to cost $1.5 billion taking anywhere from 7 to 10 years to complete. The proposal is for three new skyscrapers including one that would be taller than the Willis Tower. The initial phase would include nearly 3000 rental units 320 hotel room 800000 square feet of retail space and 525000 square feet of office space. The developers intend for this structure to become a destination spot.

RAVENSWOOD

Formerly in Lincoln Park Cookie Bar has reopened at 1746 W. Wilson. As Chicago’s first gluten free bakery owners Joe Bova and Jeff Steinberg have created healthier and tastier desserts. They have put a lot of research and effort into creating their delicacies including using certified gluten free flours random testing of products to ensure against cross-contamination and instituting peanut-allergy grade protocols. While they won’t share their recipes just ask if your allergen is in the tasty treat.

OAK PARK

Join the residents of Oak Park as they celebrate Sugar Beet Co-op’s 2nd Annual Edible Garden Tour. There are three tour check-in points – 811 S. Blvd 105 S. Marion St 905 S. Lombard Ave. You can buy your tickets online or the day of the event at Green Home Experts. Spend your day learning about back yard agriculture urban agriculture organic gardening raised beds and more. Refreshments will be served at each stop so have fun and enjoy learning!
