THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – WHAT SEASON ARE WE IN?

I’m a little confused here as this weekend’s line-up in Chicago offers a little from all seasons which leads me to ask – what season are we in?

This Saturday (12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) offers the Randolph Street’s Wonderful Winter Market at Plumber’s Hall (1350 W. Randolph Street) in the West Loop neighborhood. “SPRING FLING” this weekend’s theme brings a hippity-hop glimpse of SPRING with jellybean bright flora and fauna tulips galore floral arrangements decorating ideas and entertaining tips as well as Easter eggs chocolate bunnies and an edible shopping feast for your spring pleasure! I do believe spring has sprung!!

Are you in the mood for some BBQ fresh corn craft beer and fresh produce with all this summer-like weather? Then Sheffield’s (3258 N. Sheffield Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood is the place to be this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) as the Sheffield’s Beer Garden offers the Founder’s and Farmer’s Market. As they team up with Chicago Foodies and Harvest Moon Farms to bring you this pig roast farmers Bob and Jen will be on hand as well to answer your questions about eating local from their CSA to farming! Ahh the aroma of summer BBQ’s!!

Peterson Park in North Park Village Nature Center (5801 N. Pulaski Road) in the Forest Glen/Sauganash neighborhood offers you the Maple Syrup Festival this Saturday and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.). Come learn the entire maple syrup-making process from tapping the tree to collect its sap to boiling it down into syrup. This nature family-friendly event also features hikes campfires story-telling and canoe trips. Truly something for everyone to enjoy at this fall-like annual event!!

The Field of Screams Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt is back at the Field Museum (1400 S. Lake Shore Drive) in the South Loop neighborhood this Saturday (1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.). Join a detective team as you try to crack a hieroglyphic code and question a suspect to uncover the mystery of who or what has been knocking off the Field Museum staff as they try to acquire a sacred Egyptian artifact! Do you have what it takes to solve this mystery?

The Indie Horror Film Festival returns to the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in the Portage Park neighborhood this Saturday (1:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.). This annual fright fest screens about 30 films from all over the world with the best of blood gore and horror on the big screen. Also offered are special guest presenters one of which is Chicago’s very own John Borowski whose films have been called “holistic works of art” as well as vendors a “Scream Contest” and after parties! Beware not for the faint of heart!!

Wrapping up this crazy seasonal weekend is the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle this Sunday (8:30 a.m. Wave 1; 9:15 a.m. Wave 2) at Grant Park (500 S. Columbus Drive) in The Loop. This annual 8K run is a great way to begin your running season! Stick around for the after party at Buckingham Fountain (9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) and enjoy live music from Mike and Joe as you kickback and enjoy your one free beer! After all you do deserve it!!
