The International Kennel Club Cluster of Dog Shows arrives at McCormick Place (2301 S. Lake Shore Drive) on the Near South Side Friday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hosted by the International Kennel Club of Chicago one can watch over 10000 purebred dogs from 170 breeds compete for prizes and the title of Best in Show in a variety of events as well as see demonstrations of obedience and agility and search and research. Some new breeds will be in attendance too such as the hairless Xoloitzcuintli (don’t ask me how to pronounce it – I only know how to spell it)!

Also learn how you can potentially help save animals from being euthanized as well as about dog-adoption opportunities at the Have a Heart for a Rescue this Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Dolce Casa Café (4947 N. Damen Avenue) in the Ravenswood neighborhood. Price of a ticket includes wine beer gourmet coffee tea and a buffet of Italian appetizers and desserts prepared by Ross Otten award-winning chef!

Moving on to the other half Sunday is "Oscar" night in recognition of the men and women who are recognized as the Best at what they do in the movie industry. Needless to say if you wish to "really experience" the glitz and glamour of Oscar night then any one of these parties will be right up your alley –

Oscar Night America – held at the Gene Siskel Film Center/School of the Art Institute (164 N. State Street) in the Loop from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Amanda Puck hosts a red carpet entry to the city’s only official Academy-sanctioned Oscar party. Your $100 ticket includes dinner a silent auction and prizes throughout the night along with a HD telecast of the 84th annual awards. A $200 VIP ticket also includes a deluxe gift bag a private bar and more!

Vital Nights: And The Oscar Goes To . . . – held at Hotel 71 (71 E. Wacker Drive) in the Loop from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The hotel’s penthouse ballroom is the location for this 2nd annual Academy Awards viewing party which benefits the "Vital Bridges Center on Chronic Care." Your $40-$50 ticket includes food Svedka vodka cocktails a raffle for restaurant and spa gift certificates and more!

JDRF Red Carpet Party – held at Quay (465 E. Illinois Street) in the Streeterville neighborhood at 6:00 p.m. Hosted by "Windy City Live!" movie critics Paige Wiser and David Plummer this annual bash includes dinner Absolut cocktails and a silent auction benefiting the JDRF as you watch the 84th Academy Awards!

An Evening with the Stars – held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare (9300 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue) in Rosemont at 6:30 p.m. This annual benefit for "Autism Speaks" includes live music from Jim Peterik and Andrew Salgado along with raffles and live and silent auctions with your host WGN-AM 720 radio personality John Williams. Join Ted Brunson host of WGN-Ch. 9’s "Chicago’s Best" and comedian Patti Vasquez on the red carpet prior to watching the Academy Awards on giant screens!
