PORTAGE PARK

Have you ever tried to find a newspaper from a different city that’s not available at your local store? In Portage Park you can find over 60 newspapers and 6000 magazines from around the world for your reading pleasure. Not only that you can read a good majority of the papers and magazines online if you don’t have the time to drop by. City Newsstand is open from 7am to 11pm every day and has been serving the area since 1988.

LAKEVIEW

You’ve heard of the Hustle up the Hancock which happened just over a week ago. Well local pub The Sports Corner is offering Race to the Rooftop. Dine 10 different days during March 2011 spend $10 per visit and receive a complimentary ticket to one game on Wrigleyville Rooftops on April 3rd 18th or 19th (date and rooftop location subject to availability). There are more rules but what a great way to get on a rooftop to see our Cubbies.

LOOP

From the group that brought you Trace Sweetwater and The Boundary there’s a new hot spot sure to please the working set in the Loop. This tavern and grille is called South Branch and opened on Tuesday. They’ve got a couple private opening events during the lunch hour this week but are open to the public after 3pm. Located at 100 S. Wacker this is sure to be a great new venue for all.

LINCOLN SQUARE

Every year around this time I start thinking about Greek Easter and where I’ll get my lamb for my portion of dinner. I’ve gone to an old standby at Paulina Meat Market but this year I came across a local shop that I hadn’t really seen before. It’s called Gene’s Sausage Shop and wow what an experience. It’s a must-see location which offers residents in Lincoln Square and Ravenswood a closer spot for great fresh meat.

EVANSTON

Residents of Evanston now have their own 3-1-1 call center to address non-emergency issues. The call center opened on Tuesday and fielded over 200 calls on its first day. The call center is open from 7am to 7pm every day and also has a website for residents to submit a request ask questions and track the status of any requests. The service is one of only four in Illinois. Response times vary depending on the service-level required.
