THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – HAVING FUN AS TIME FLIES BY!

WOW — It’s the last weekend in July already! I guess its true what they say "Time Sure Flies By When You’re Having Fun." And here in Chicago we know how to have "fun" with this weekend being no exception. Let’s take a look shall we?

We’ve got Summer on Southport which took a hiatus last year. This Lakeview neighborhood fest located at 3700 N. Southport Avenue will provide live music on two stages while local restaurants sell food. Beer vendors and art displays featured as well. Sunday brings a gospel brunch to this 8th annual event.

Then there’s the Lincoln Park Arts and Music Festival on Racine Avenue between Fullerton and Webster Avenues (2200 N. Racine Avenue). This 2nd annual fest will be hosting a new juried arts and crafts competition featuring nearly 100 artists. Also on hand will be food and drinks from local restaurants and bars as well as live music.

The Pilsen neighborhood presents its Fiesta del Sol this weekend at 1400 W. Cermak Road. Now in its 38th year this smoke- and alcohol-free street festival features arts and crafts a car show carnival rides DJs live music soccer tournaments and much more. As for food vendors you’ve got your choice from American Asian and Mexican dishes.

Moving right along there’s the Wicker Park Fest located at 1500 N. Milwaukee Avenue in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. This 7th annual street fest offers food for sale from their local restaurants as well as live indie music on three stages. Arts and crafts vendors along with kids’ activities round out this event.

By the way coinciding with the Wicker Park Fest is the Vintage Heaven Big Sale located at 1550 N. Milwaukee Avenue where local vendors will be selling clothing and accessories at sale prices.

The town of Cicero one of Chicago’s suburbs is hosting this year’s Belize Day in the Park at the Hawthorne Race Course (3501 S. Laramie Avenue). This fest formerly held at Washington Park brings the taste of Belizean cuisine along with live music DJs vendors and traditional fare to its 30th annual party this Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The 10th annual Chicago Scene Boat Party takes place this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lake Michigan at Chicago Avenue (800 N. Lake Shore Drive) in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Be sure to bring plenty of food and beverages on your choice of water vehicle be it a boat canoe jet ski or a yacht as you hob knob with thousands of other revelers on Lake Michigan. Your rain date will be August 1st in the event of a major storm but hopefully the rain will hold off.

Last but not least it’s the Chicago Luxury Ice Cream Festival this Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (2430 N. Cannon Drive) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. This 2nd annual event will be offering samples of gourmet creations from about 20 creameries and pastry chefs both inside the museum and on the outdoor terrace and courtyard. Creameries include Black Dog Gelato Homer’s Oberweis and more while chefs include Michelle Garcia Suzanne Imaz as well as others. Live jazz and funk music will be provided as well as small bites beer and wine. The cost is $25 but ice cream is priceless!
