KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN – A GREAT LAWN

KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN – A GREAT LAWN

The best way to keep weeds and pests away from your grass is simple. Maintain a thick healthy lawn. Easier said than done right? With proper watering and feeding it is possible. Many dedicated lawn and garden experts are gravitating toward organic feeding and pest control.

This is not only better for the environment but is also healthy for your family and pets. Many years ago there was a study that traced lymph cancer in dogs to an ingredient in weed and feed sold to the public. The findings were that since animals are closer to the ground the chemicals have a greater effect on them. But what about our children rolling around in the grass? I think it’s just good judgment to go organic now in our lawn and garden.

It’s easy to start. Check out organic gardening on the net and you will have many choices. I have always purchased from Gardens Alive. They have many solutions for myriad lawn garden and home pest problems.

Organic lawn care does take a little longer to see results but is certainly worth it. A little spot seeding always helps. We do it every year. Remember to keep the seed moist every day till it germinates (usually 10-14 days). Add a bag or two of topsoil raking it over the grass with the back of the rake. Also don’t forget one inch water per week. One deep watering is better than more frequent shorter sprinklings. It grows deep roots essential for a vigorous healthy lawn.

Happy Gardening!
