LAKEVIEW

Creating a personalized home is something that Agatha Wieczorek was simply born to do. She has been pursuing her career in architecture and getting her license at Chicago architecture firm HOK.

Her passion for "tinkering" has allowed her to take simple items from IKEA and other stores and create artistic touches throughout her home.

SOUTH LOOP

Governor Pat Quinn signed the Video Gaming Act last week and the Illinois Gaming Board has until early September to formulate regulations and procedures.

The act was met with mixed emotions by bar and restaurant owners throughout the city. South Loop Club manager Dimitri Vranas said he has seen no customer interest in video poker machines at the club on State Street.

"I don’t think it will be a serious draw. If I did I’d be putting them in already" Vranas said. "Maybe down the line if customers ask for it."

GOLD COAST

Starting this Friday Holy Name Cathedral will be reopening to its original splendor.

Last February the church caught fire with enough damage to close for repairs. It was an $8 million restoration which Rev. Dan Mayall says "was a blessing in disguise."

EVANSTON

Chicago lost one its treasures this past weekend when John Dickson passed away at his Evanston home.

Mr. Dickson wrote traded grain on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade wrote poetry that won awards and was published in prestigious magazines and literary journals. He read publicly often including the poetry slam at the Green Mill tavern in Uptown.
