THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Festive and Fun Activities for the Family

Jennifer Garrity - Dean's Team Customer Service Coordinator

With the holiday season in full swing it may be nice to take the family to some festive and fun activities this weekend. Among some of my family’s favorite are:

Macy’s 41st Annual Animated Christmas Windows

Growing up we would hop into the family station wagon and go to see Marshall Fields “windows” on State Street each year. We are thrilled that Macy’s has decided to carry on that tradition too.

Experience a unique and simply magical tale as you view the animated windows on State Street this holiday season. This year’s story was inspired by the magical process behind the creation of the decorations on the Great Tree. Each window celebrates the “Believe” theme and features Chicago sights.

Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light
Museum of Science & Industry

If you have ever wondered how Christmas is celebrated in any other countries? The Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World is a great place to see international displays of Christmas Trees. Pick out your favorite country’s tree while you enjoy other holiday pleasures.

The Museum’s own grand 45-foot tree will be decorated with ornaments representing the Museum’s exhibits while fun-loving “penguins” play under the tree and welcome Museum guests.

The Museum halls will be decked holiday singers and dancers will kick off the festivities. The glitter of more than 50 trees will greet you at this year’s Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light.

More than 50 trees—including the new Bulgaria tree—will be beautifully decorated by members of Chicago’s ethnic communities. Stroll through the trees on the Main Level enjoy intermittent falling “snow” and savor the performances of various dance and choral groups every day of the week on the Holiday Stage adjacent to the East Court.

Macy’s SantaLand® at Macy’s on State Street
Fifth Floor Children’s Department

Bring the children to see Santa at Macy’s downtown. Have your picture taken with Santa and tell him what you’re wishing for this Christmas. Santa will be there through Wednesday December 24th.

The Great Tree at Macy’s on State Street
7th Floor-Walnut Room

Dine under the Great Tree in the world famous Walnut Room. This year’s 45-foot-tall tree will feature ornaments from Great Trees of the past along with toys from Santa’s workshop red bows shimmering tinsel and thousands of lights. Also the fairy princess will sprinkle fairy dust and ask you your holiday wishes.

There is so much excitement to be had all in two great Chicago landmarks this weekend. So get out and enjoy!
