KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – CONSERVING WATER IN THE HOME AND GARDEN

Kathleen Weaver Zech - Dean's Team Director of Buyers Agency ServicesIf you cover your sidewalk with a porous material such as pavers or gravel instead of solid cement or asphalt rainwater will be able to soak into the ground slowly and avoid water running off into the sewer.

Collect water in rain barrels for use in your containers and garden. Plants love the warmer non-treated rain water and you save money on water too.

You can save gallons of water a day by fixing sinks that leak.

When you wash your car use a bucket of water instead of leaving the hose run the entire time.

Use water-wise shower heads designed to conserve water. These shower heads are not expensive and will save a hefty amount of water. Become more efficient in the shower no more than 5 minutes.

Catch water that typically goes down the drain for other uses. The water you collect while waiting for the water to heat can be used for your plants or washing floors and such.

Run your washing machine and dishwasher only with full loads. Doing such during off peak hours will also help energy sources.
