TECHNOLOGY TIPS – EMPLOYERS CAN NOW CONTROL FACEBOOK USAGE

Cathy Mallers PhotoWe at Dean’s Team are Facebook users and have to admit that it can be very addicting if you don’t monitor yourself. Most people understand the need for Facebook in the scheme of business but with all the plug-ins/add-ins it can take away from your time in the office and create quite a lot of wasted time.

FaceTime Communications has introduced a new feature in its Unified Security Gateway – hardware with software pre-installed on it. This software is designed to let employees use social networking sites while in the office but block them from using the "fun stuff" like Word Challenge or Word Twist. FaceTime already has software that monitors employees’ use of instant messaging Skype Web browsing and other applications.

The whole inspiration for this software came from CIOs who state the problem very clearly. They did not want their employees playing games on social networking sites when they should be working. The problem however is that there are employees who need to use Facebook especially human resources who screen job applicants using Facebook.

All I know is that the kids had better watch out because if a software like this becomes available to parents monitoring will be much easier.
