CHICAGO SPORTS BLOG – 2008 LOCAL SPORTS

Jeff Ardito - Dean's Team Listing Specialist!WHAT DOES THE 2008 LOCAL SPORTS YEAR LOOK LIKE?

It’s tough right now to be a Chicagoan and witness the developments of our sports teams. Unless you’re an AHL fan rooting on the Chicago Wolves or an AFL fan rooting on the Chicago Rush there’s a rather bleak outlook for the remainder of this year.

Yes the Cubs and Sox are giving us some room for optimism but we know that each team has major challenges ahead to realize a championship. The Bulls having played poorly for majority of the year are still clinging to a slight hope that they can reach the playoffs but does anyone expect them to advance to the next round? I hope not!

The Blackhawks although young lose last night despite having a memorable occasion of honoring legendary players Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita. It’s unbelievable that they couldn’t harness the energy of the past to win the game last night. It goes with the territory of being so young. I guess we could have some faith with the new direction of the franchise but it will take time.

The Bears have baffled even the best of the football experts on radio and television but remain steadfast that they aren’t in a rebuilding phase. Yet the excitement of the off season is paying Lance Briggs big money when it appeared the Bears wouldn’t and then resigning wide out Marty Booker who was drafted by the Bears originally and eventually traded to the Miami Dolphins for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye.

So the balance of the year rests on our baseball teams because I’m not convinced the immediate future for the Bulls Blackhawks and Bears is bright. It’s too bad that with the exception of the Bulls in the 90’s our town has enjoyed very little success over the last fifty years and it doesn’t look like that is going to change in the short term.
